Extensive exercise in LEAB’s new building

Volunteer fire brigade personnel must regularly practise a variety of important skills to ensure that everything goes smoothly in an emergency. The Busdorf volunteer fire brigade, for example, recently completed an exercise for breathing apparatus wearers at the construction site of the new LEAB building.

Exercises directly in the building

The construction work on the new building, which we are currently creating for the production, quality assurance and development departments, continues to make good progress, but is not yet complete. These are ideal conditions for an operational exercise for the respiratory protection equipment carriers, says Timo Schlicht, exercise leader and group leader of the Busdorf volunteer fire brigade: "As long as it's still a construction site, there's no danger of damaging anything, and for us as direct LEAB neighbours, it was just as exciting as it was comfortable that we were allowed into the building shell with all the material - hoses, respiratory protection equipment, etc. - to practise the emergency with the windows and doors closed."

Realistic conditions

Even though no fire was set, obviously, and the extreme heat generated by fires is difficult to simulate, flashing lights and a fog machine provided realistic conditions and zero visibility in the closed rooms. Timo Schlicht explains:

We always take the opportunity to get to know new buildings to get a feeling for how big and intricate they are and what special features there are to be best prepared in case of an emergency.

On good termin with the neighbours

"As a volunteer fire brigade, we are very grateful when we receive uncomplicated support from companies, as in this case from LEAB," Timo Schlicht is pleased to say. We, too, place a lot of value on regional commitment and partnership-based contact with the industries that work with emergency, special or commercial vehicles and are therefore very pleased that we were able to support the important work of the volunteer employees of the Busdorf volunteer fire brigade.
