How on-board power distribution systems ensure reliable and safe power sub-distribution

On-board power distributors function as a safe sub-distribution for single-phase AC voltage networks in emergency vehicles. They find use when several loads are connected simultaneously to an inverter with galvanic isolation.

How does a fuse work?

Fuses protect against overload. Also known as automatic circuit breakers, they ensure that cables remain intact - for example, by a cable fire or a short circuit. Especially when too many consumers use the same source and the circuit is overloaded, the fuse prevents current from continuing to flow.

The way it works is simple: a bimetal strip in the circuit breaker heats up and bends when the current flowing through it exceeds the specified nominal value. This is when the circuit breaker is triggered.

In the event of a short-circuit, i.e. if the connection of the two poles of a voltage source is almost without resistance and there is a very high current flow between them, an electromagnet, also located in the fuse, ensures that a disconnection is triggered.

Top priority: personal protection in the work place

Strict guidelines apply to ensure the safety of users of electronic consumers in vehicles, i.e. at the workplace. It should be noted here that line protection is not synonymous with personal protection. There are a number of variables in electrical installations.

What connections do on-board power distributors offer?

Our on-board power distributors are equipped with personal protection switches as standard and are quickly installed. In addition, they are available with a variety of socket combinations and mains priority switches.

Since the connector must not be plugged in or unplugged under load or voltage, the plugs are locked to prevent accidental disconnection.

Features and options

Some of our on-board power distributors also have integrated operating hour meters. On request, they are optionally available with an additional relay for switching/shutting off e.g. chargers, radio or hand lamps. Supplementary insulation monitoring enables to display earthed and unearthed networks
